Before our first bike even emerged from our CAD design software, Bullfinch had a mantra: made here to ride here. It captured everything we wanted Bullfinch to be. A UK bike builder, using UK fabricated tubesets, with a singular focus on what it is to ride on our roads and paths.
A genuine UK product
We choose not to tread the easier path of importing licensed frames from overseas manufacturers . Lots of people already do this.
Instead we wanted people to experience a genuine UK product, based on Reynolds’ unrivalled 853 ProTeam steel tubeset. We wanted Bullfinch riders to feel the hand and soul that brought their bike into being.

What distinguishes a Bullfinch frameset is UK design, manufacture and finishing. Each tube has been rolled, drawn and swaged in Reynolds’ Birmingham factory where their global specialist one-off custom manufacturing work is done.
From there, the tubesets and stays travel down the road to Sussex where they are expertly handcrafted into frames by our manufacturing partners at Enigma Bicycle Works. Then the frames return to the West Midlands for paint, graphics and finishing, before being built up into full bikes.
Our partnership permits us a real custom approach to tube selection, stay design, manufacturing detail and finishing.
To understand the point to all this, you have to appreciate what is so specific about UK roads, where our bikes are born.
UK riding – what actually sets it apart?
- Road surfaces exposed to our infamous weather and lax attitude to pothole repair
- Viable four season riding with few frost days but plenty of grubby winter stuff
- Terrain that is neither flat nor fully mountainous, giving shorter, sharper climbs and descents where grip and surefootedness are your main allies
- Twisty lanes needing stable steering geometry together with predictable braking behaviour
- Huge hedgerows that impact on everything above . . . obscuring views, giving shelter, harbouring frosts and potholes, and generally being beautiful
- Enough scenic beauty to stop Instagram in its tracks!

Eight years into the Bullfinch custom journey, with many happy riders munching miles on their bikes, we are proud to look back and see what we did right in our design and build journey. It is highly motivating for our team to look forward to our next phase knowing that thousands of happy miles are already under our collective belt.
